Kelly Glynn from Tipton got a chance to treat himself with the best birthday gift ever with $10,000 that he won playing Powerball. He waited for nine months to claim the prize, after winning in a draw held on January 22.
Tipton resident kept his win a secret, but he shared the truth about his incredible fortune with one person – his mom. She was the only one who knew that he was holding the valuable ticket, and he had a very interesting reason to wait for such a long time to claim it.
“I just thought I’d save it until around my birthday,” Glynn said. “I didn’t know if I’d want anything or need anything. I just thought it’d be a nice birthday present.”
This isn’t the only Powerball mystery in Tipton – lotto officials have been looking for the winner of a $1 million prize won on November 2013. Back in May, Iowa lottery officials held a news conference in Tipton asking local players to check their tickets from the January 22 draw and also the one held on November 16. Three days after the press conference Richard Watson came forward to claim his prize, but Kelly Glynn didn’t follow in his footsteps. The lottery poster advertising the unclaimed prize that was hanging in Family Foods store where he purchased the winning ticket didn’t tempt him.
“Yep, I’ve been looking at the poster every time I go in there. They’ll be able to finally take it down,” the winner joked.
